It’s summertime which is all about winding down, enjoying the sunshine and of course, catching up on some reading! I like to keep my summer reading light and breezy with a side of drama. Perfect for a short flight, a beach or even a local Starbucks patio!

Here are my picks for book you won’t want to put down this summer – except for a pina colada refill, of course!

1. Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim

A delicious story that takes place against the backdrop of San Francisco’s Chinatown. This book is about the homecoming of an Asian-American chef who reconnects with her roots through food.  I am really loving the rise of the Asian-American story in both movies, TV and literature! This story was one that I could really resonate with. You’ll love following Natalie through the ups and downs of returning to San Francisco but be warned: this book will leave you hungry for dumplings!

2. Cat + Nat’s Mom Truths by Catherine Belknap and Natalie Telfer

Hilarious and totally true stories about motherhood and all the sticky little fingers that come with it. An easy read that can be put down and picked up on a whim between flights or at the cottage.

3. Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey

The perfect summer beach read about an aspiring writer and her love of romantic comedies. Annie’s love of rom-coms has her dreaming of the day when she’ll meet her own smart and sensitive man- with a houseboat, of course.  That is why when she meets famous actor, Drew Danforth, on the set of his latest movie, she is not definitely not interested in him – he is the exact opposite of Tom Hanks! This easy cover-to-cover read is perfect for flights or lounging on the beach!

4. Life and Other Inconveniences by Kristan Higgins (Coming August 2019)

Emma London never thought her grandmother would speak to her again considering the way they parted ways. Now that her grandmother is dying, she wants to make amends. This story is about second-chances, family and love. You’ll find yourself becoming empathetic with each character and hoping for closure for everyone. If you like the storytelling of Emily Griffith, you’ll enjoy this heartwarming story about a mother and her estranged grandmother.

5. The Floating Feldmans by Elyssa Friedland (Coming July 2019)

A vacation with the Feldman family for mom’s seventieth birthday uncovers old sibling rivalries and more. Full of quirky and witty family fun, this book will have you wishing you were a passenger on this family vacation! You’ll like this book if you enjoyed Where’d You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple.
