Our Favourite 2020 Valentine’s Day Books

Love Makes a Family by Sophie Beer

What makes a family? There are many different ways to create families. This book shows that LOVE is what makes a family. Love is shown in early-morning snuggles, a kiss before bed. Whether a child has two moms, two dads, one parent, or one of each, this simple preschool read-aloud demonstrates that what’s most important in each family’s life is the love the family members share.

I Love You, Little One by Holly Surplice

This delightful bedtime story follows a Guinea Pig mommy and her baby as she shows him how much she loves him through her baking and snuggles. The sweet illustrations showcases mommy’s love for baby in her every day activities.

Teddy Bear of the Year by Vikki VanSickle, illustrated by Sydney Hanson

One of our all-time favorite books is If I Had a Gryphon. We have read it over 30 times, which is a pretty big achievement considered baby is merely 10 months old! This is why when Teddy Bear of the Year was released this January, we were ecstatic to get our hands (and 4 baby teeth) on it! Teddy Bear of the Year follows a teddy bear named Ollie who is whisked away to a Teddy Bear picnic where he meets other bears doing noble causes such as hospital visits and sleepovers. He starts to feel like he hasn’t done anything special but when he receives an award and learns why he has received it, he realises that simple, everyday things we do that are comforting and are acts of kindness we may not even realise we do, are very important and deserving too.

Where’s Baby? by Anne Hunter

“Where did Baby go?” wonders Papa Fox as we follow along with his search for baby. Papa comes across many forest animals but still no baby. This charmingly illustrated book will keep your little one playing along with Baby as Papa Fox continues his search.

Yak and Dove by Kyo Maclear, illustrated by Esme Shapiro

Sometimes the unlikeliest friends form the greatest friendships. A funny, charming picture book from a dynamic duo.
